Floor Stains & Finishes

Stains come in pre-mixed colors but we also do custom colors. Stains can be any color, from very light to dark. Popular stain colors include Golden Oak, Special Walnut, Dark Walnut, and Jacobean. Stain brands we use include Minwax, Duraseal and Pratt & Lambert brands. Finishes can be water based or oil based, matte or shiny. Learn more about which finish is right for you below:

Water Base Finish

Water based finishes are more popular, they account for 90% of the finishes we do. Water based finishes dry faster than oil based finishes, is non-yellowing, and many are environmentally friendly. When using water based finish over stain, three coats of finish are applied

Oil Base Polyurethane Finish

Oil based finishes are considered more durable, many people use them in rental apartments and for high traffic areas. They have a stronger odor and are not allowed in many high rises or condo buildings, they also take about 24 hours to dry in between coats. Two coats of oil based finish are applied over stain.
